Stroke Awareness Campaign in collaboration with Cardiosteroil®

19th Oct 2012

Stroke awareness campaign

MMSA's Stroke Awareness Campaign is in collaboration with Cardiosteroil® With special thanks to Birkirkara Local Council, ATG Co. Ltd, One touch Select, Citadel Health Insurance Agency and Alta Care Laboratoires.

Did you know that every six seconds, someone dies of stroke? Stroke is a medical emergency that requires immediate medical care. Although nowadays the public is well informed of the causes of stroke and how to change their lifestyle to prevent it, many are however unable to recognise the signs and symptoms. If these are detected at an early stage it could save the life of the patient.

In light of this, the Malta Medical Students’ Association (MMSA) has been working hard to organise outreaches in several local councils around Malta, in order to raise awareness and educate the community on how to recognise stroke using the F.A.S.T. system and advise on what action to take should someone suffer from stroke.

On the 21st October, the MMSA, together with the Birkirkara Local Council, are organising “Stroke Awareness Campaign in collaboration with Cardiosteroil®” with the special support of One touch select, Citadel Health Insurance Agency and Alta Care Laboratoires. The event will be held near St. Helen’s Parish Church between 09.00 and 12.00 hrs. This will include an informative talk given out by trained medical students and blood pressure and glucose readings will also be taken.

This is another SCOPH event, which is the MMSA’s Standing Committee on Public Health, whose aim is to increase the community’s knowledge and educate on the prevention on various health conditions and diseases. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
