Through training we improved our capabilities.
The ESF Project, ICAN – Employability Programme gave the opportunity to individuals to enhance their employability. The project facilitated access to training programmes, thus giving the opportunity to jobseekers or inactive individuals to reintegrate themselves into the labour market and seek employment. In addition, the training programmes helped gainfully employed persons to acquire new skills or update their skills, thus allowing them to retain their jobs, get promoted, seek alternative employment or start-up their own business.
The Employability Programme also provided opportunities to disadvantaged and minority groups, who have been absent from the formal economy for long periods, to regain their confidence, uncover their full potential and renew their skills.
The aims and objectives of such a programme were achieved since over 38,000 people participated and benefitted from an extensive list of training schemes and courses which included:
- Basic skills in literacy and languages.
- Job search skills.
- Trade & technical skills.
- Hospitality – food & beverage.
- Sales & office procedures.
- Child & elderly care programmes.
- Information technology.
- Business & management development.
- Entrepreneurship schemes.
The Employment and Training Corporation is continually revising its courses and adapts its training schemes and programmes to current labour market needs.
