MAY WE ASK, HON. MINISTER?

 

 

September is fast approaching and soon we will be celebrating our National Day on September 8^th, including the organisation of the traditional National Regatta in the Grand Harbour.  May we ask why, from year to year, the organising of this event is getting from bad to worse?   For accommodating the warships for the war in Libya, we moved all vessels to find enough clear space for them on the Valletta Waterfront, however, last year, why couldn’t some space have been found in the bare Grand Harbour for the berthing of the huge cruise-liner berthed on the racecourse, as most of the boats’ courses were hidden from view nearly until close to the finishing line?   Also, we admire the efforts being made for cover of cab horses from the scorching summer sun but, please, couldn’t the numerous spectators be at least treated no less?  Can we, this year, hope for some improvement over past years, please?  After all, isn’t this activity also a main attraction for visiting tourists?

So, you are fined 60 Euros for beating up a man!  And no other charges if you are forgiven, even if suspiciously under hidden threats. Worth it??  Hon. Minister, how much is it for maiming him, and if you kill him?   No wonder crimes and violence are so rampant and frequent in our country!

And what about making fun and ridiculing our ‘Courts of Justice’.  What am I saying?   Justice! That’s a terrible misnomer.  Maybe ‘Courts of Law’ would do more than due credit to our laws and judicial system.    No, not even moral judgement can be fairly attributed to our so-called justice systems.

Hon. Minister. do you think that we could ever manage to learn something from some Mickey Mouse country?

Settembru rega wasal maghna u dalwaqt niccelebraw il-Jum Nazzjonali tat-8 ta’ Settembru, inkluza r-Regatta Nazzjonali tradizzjonali fil-Port il-Kbir.  Nistghu nistaqsuk ghala, minn sena ghall-ohra, l-organizazzjoni ta’ din l-attivita dejjem sejra mill-hazin ghall-aghar.  Sabiex nakkomodaw il-vapuri tal-gwerra ta’ pajjizi barranin biex jattakkaw lil-Libja nehhejna l-vapuri kollha minn ma’ Xatt il-Belt biex nghatuhom spazju fejn jersqu.  Minkejja dan, is-sena l-ohra, ma stajniex insibu ftit spazju fil-vojt tal-Port il-Kbir fejn jistghu jersqu temporanjament il-vapuri kbar tat-turisti marbuta f’nofs il-korsa tat-tellieqa, billi parti kbira tal-korsa, kwazi vicin il-qbid, kienet mohbija ghall-ispettaturi li kienu qed isegwu din l-attivita.  Fuq nota ohra u bla ebda dubju, nammiraw l-isforzi li qed isiru biex ikun hemm ghoti mill-qawwa tax-xemx ghaz-zwiemel tal-karrozzini, imma, jekk jogghbok, ma tistghax tistma u tirrispetta lil-ispettaturi numeruzi ghallinqas mhux anqas miz-zwiemel?  Nistghu din is-sena nittamaw  ghal xi titjib fuq is-snin li ghaddew?

Mela, jekk tghati xeba ponn lil xi hadd tehel 60 Ewros! U xejn akar jekk dan jahfirlek, anki jekk susspettament jaghmel dan taht xi theddid mohbi.  Tajba hux??  Onor. Ministru, kemm tiswa jekk tkorrih, timmankah jew, ghad direttura, toqtlu?   Mhux ta’ b’xejn li l-kazi tal-kriminalita u l-vjolenza go pajjizna qed jizdiedu b’rata allarmanti!  U xi nghidu ghan-nuqqas ta’ rispett u tmaqdir lejnil-‘Qrati tal-Gustizzja’ taghna? 

 

Le, lanqas biss gudizzju morali ma nistghu nghidu li korrettement u gustament nattribuh lil-ligijiet u s-sistema gudizzjarja taghna.  Imma stenna, x’jien nghid??  Dan zgur mhux isem misthoqq.  Forsi l-isem ta’ ‘Qrati tal-Ligi’ ikun aktar minn addattat u xieraq ghal-ligijiet u s-sistema gudizzjarja taghna.  Forsi lanqas biss nistghu nistqarru li xi gudizzju morali jirrizulta regolarment mis-sistema legislattiva ta’ pajjizna.

Onorevoli, tahseb li xi darba nistghu nitghallmu xi haga minn xi pajjiz tal-‘Mickey Mouse’?
