Manufacturer’s Description
High Speed. High Impact.
Powered by a 10 Megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor with f/2.0 lens, and molded in a distinctive stainless steel body, the high speed IXUS 300 HS has stunning looks and image quality to match. The IXUS 300 HS offers a supercharged combination of speed, usability and creative control – making it perfect for those who wish to make a statement through the technology they own.
10.0 MP High Sensitivity CMOS sensor
With 10 Megapixels of resolution, it is possible to capture all subjects in great detail and print up to size A3+. This back- illuminated sensor has been designed to let more light enter its photo-cells, increasing its sensitivity in low light conditions. The improved light receptivity of the sensor provides image data with reduced noise, accurately reproducing the ambience of dimly-lit environments.
The f/2.0 wide-angle lens with 3.8x zoom
The IXUS 300 HS is fitted with a wide aperture f/2.0 28mm wide-angle lens to help you take full advantage of the HS System. The f/2.0 wide-angle lens allows twice as much light into the camera as an f/2.8 lens, enabling you to use faster shutter speeds to reduce blur or achieve a shallower depth of field. This is perfect for creating enticing portraits, by drawing attention to the face and blurring the background with its impressively shallow depth-of-field. It also lets you capture more nuances in low light shooting by using more of the available light. You’ll be ready for anything with a lens aperture larger than even many professional sizes.

HS System
The IXUS 300 HS is the first Canon compact camera to feature the new HS System, which represents a powerful combination of a high sensitivity imaging sensor and high-performance DIGIC 4 picture processing. Designed to provide excellent image quality and advanced low light performance, the HS System implementation in this model can produce results with noticeably less noise when compared with previous models. The advanced performance offered by the HS System has resulted in significant improvements in the camera’s capabilities: 1. Wider ISO range – Capable of significant noise reductions, the HS System can leverage the improved performance of its higher ISO settings in order to capture the ambience of any scene with exceptional image quality. 2. Low Light – The HS System truly excels in low light conditions and is able to preserve the atmosphere of the moment in dark scenes. Common low light problems such as capturing well exposed subjects against dark backgrounds or capturing blurred subjects can now be easily conquered. 3. Dynamic Range – The increased sensitivity of the HS System allows it to capture a wider dynamic range with greater variation in brightness when compared to the results of previous models.

High Speed Burst
The HS System, combined with a CMOS sensor, powers this camera’s high speed functions. The IXUS 300 HS is able to continuously shoot up to 3.7 shots per second at full 10.0MP resolution, or up to 8.4 shots per second in High Speed Burst mode at 2.5MP resolution.

Super Slow Motion Movie
A newly introduced feature is Super Slow Motion Movie mode; capturing movies at 240 frames per second (fps) and playing images back at normal speed for a spectacular slow motion effect. The free software included also supports multi-speed playback, allowing the footage to be viewed both at real or slow motion speed. (See top of the page for the video demonstration of this feature)
HD video capture with easy YouTube uploader
For moments that lend themselves to video, the IXUS 300 HS offers (1280 x 720pixles) high definition movie recording with high quality stereo sound. The lens quiet drive system allows users to zoom during recording with minimum audio interference, while the optical Image Stabilizer can also be engaged to reduce the effects of camera shake in video footage. An integrated HDMI-mini port makes it straightforward to share images, allowing pictures and video to be viewed directly on any HDMI-compatible screen, including HDTVs. For fast and easy uploading of your clips to sharing websites like YouTube, Easy Web Upload software is included free in the box. This displays your movie clips and can store your YouTube log in details, so you can just select your clip and upload with one click.
Make your mark with creative shooting
The IXUS 300 HS enables even the most inexperienced photographers to explore their creative side, offering a range of modes and functions that make it easy to capture striking images. Smart Auto with Scene Detection Technology provides the best results in all conditions, intelligently detecting the scene and selecting the optimum settings from 22 variables. Smart Flash Exposure also controls flash levels according to shooting conditions, providing the right amount of flash to ensure perfectly exposed shots in all situations.

New scene modes allow you to easily expand your photographic results. These include Miniature effect, which reproduces the effect of a very narrow depth of field transforming normal landscapes into miniature look-alikes; and Fish Eye, which reproduces the effect of a fish eye lens in three different levels of intensity. Easy self-portraits are provided by Smart Shutter, which uses Face Detection Technology to allow users to trigger the shutter using a smile or a wink of the eye. Using FaceSelf-Timer, users can also set the camera to shoot automatically after detecting a new face in the frame. For more advanced users requiring additional levels of creative control, the IXUS 300 HS offers control over shutter speed or aperture settings in Tv and Av modes respectively.

A world of advantages with Canon technology. Rich razor-sharp images – every time
The lens is the most important part of any imaging device and all Canon cameras incorporate lenses designed and manufactured by Canon to the most exacting standards – lenses based on over 70 years of experience for outstanding results. The outstanding quality of Canon lenses is underscored by their use in most broadcast applications. For example programs like Coronation Street, Casualty and X Factor and nature documentaries like The Blue Planet and Life, as well as the majority of outside broadcasts in the UK, are all recorded using Canon’s state-of-the-art broadcast lenses. Canon’s market-leading Optical Image Stabiliser is a lens-shift system that automatically detects and corrects camera shake, whilst ensuring outstanding image quality. It can monitor for movement over 4,000 times per second, allowing handheld shooting at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions without blur and giving you steady, crisp, brilliant images you’ll be proud to shoot and share. Pioneered by Canon for their EOS Digital SLR cameras in 1987 it is the fastest in-lens image stabiliser available on the market (twice as fast as the nearest competitor) and ensures the IXUS range has a top quality pedigree. The 3.8x wide-angle optical zoom lens on the IXUS 300 HS lets you capture more image in every shot and adds more depth to your photography. Meanwhile a resolution of 10.0 Megapixels allows you to capture every scene in rich detail, ensuring oversize prints – even of cropped pictures – retain high image quality.
Fast, intelligent processing even in tricky lighting conditions
Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, lies at the heart of the Canon digital camera and delivers exceptional processing speeds, responsive operation and advanced noise reduction. It also makes possible intelligent evolved Face and Object Detection Technology, which finds and tracks moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, adjusting the camera settings for optimal results. Faces will have natural-looking skin tones and additional Blink Detection lets you avoid the disappointment of mis-timed people shots by displaying a 3 second warning if a person in the frame has their eyes closed. Red-Eye Correction is also an integral feature to ensure flawless photos. DIGIC 4 also makes possible Canon’s enhanced i-Contrast feature, which offers improved contrast and greater detail in tricky lighting conditions. Available in either shooting or playback mode, i-Contrast analyses the exposure, dynamic range and other image characteristics of a shot then adaptively increases the gain in dark areas to produce heightened detail in those regions. It does this without blowing out correctly exposed parts of the image, while the noise reduction function of DIGIC 4 ensures minimal noise in the adjusted areas.
