Hey fellow indie poppers!!!

On Saturday 24th October I’ll be holding my annual Dj event, Spots and Stripes and with three days to go I’m mighty EXCITED!!!! It’s really the only time I can dedicate a whole night to my favourite genre, that is INDIE POP or TWEE.

For those who dont know Indie pop is a genre of music that fuses together bits and pieces of The Beach Boys, The Byrds, motown and fifties pop radio hits and Velvet Underground. In other words it’s a highly melodic form of music, with a danceability and feel good factor. Although it’s roots lie in sixties music it came to the forefront in the eighties with the American group Beat Happening and it exploded in 1986.

today indie pop still has the upper hand and lately through bands such as Vampire Weekend, The Arcade Fire, Noah and the Whale and Sufjan Stevens, has even gained chart popularity. Although more orchestral and incorporating bits from other cultures it still hasnt lost it’s feel good vibe.

The night is called SPOTS and STRIPES due to the fact that most indie poppers in the mid eighties twee explosion would wear spotty or stripey clothing and I would like ALL people attending to do the same in order to keep the spirit alive

As with last year’s party I had G IS FOR GUSTAV as my guest. He’s got a wide knowledge of twee and knows how to get a dancefloor going so I know the night will be in good hands. We’ll be rotating every 45 mins for that extra variety.

Plus we wont only restrict ourselves to the twee genre so you’ll hear Motown, sixties pop, fifties radio hits and girl group music as well.

so come on down to Chiaroscuro on sat 24th October in your spottiest and stripiest , and dance the night away!
