No. 0193
STATEMENT BY THE Parliamentary Secretariat for Health in the Ministry for Social Policy
Reference is made to the list of medicinal items published by the Leader of Opposition this morning. It has to be made clear from the outset that this is not the list of items which are Out of Stock (OOS) from the main Government Medical Stores.
The published list was distributed for information purposes to POYC participating pharmacies as a guidance and contains items which do not form part of the POYC portfolio, such as gluten free, colostomy, special medicines distributed from MDH only, hospital items.
It has to be pointed out that the bulk orders for POYC pharmacies have just been delivered i.e. all 67 POYC pharmacies should be well stocked, and that is the reason why the OOS at POYC may seem on the high side. POYC adopts a system of retaining enough stocks to cover needs, in order to avoid wastage. Supplies are topped up from the Main Medical Stores on a regular basis. Considering that bulk orders have just been delivered replenishment of supplies will be effected in the coming days.
Alarming the general public and patients should not be entertained, more over used for political gains.
