“Young people expect a modern public transport system” - AD

Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party believes that the current public transport operators and the government ought to feel a sense of responsibility towards those using public transport for their daily activities, especially those who do not drive.

Deborah Zahra, AD spokesperson on youth, said: “Most youths, in particular students, are at a greater disadvantage. It is already difficult to travel to their summer work. Closer dialogue, no false promises, more cooperation and investment is necessary in order to improve the efficiency of public transport so that youths would consider public transport as a service which is reliable, accessible, efficient and affordable; and like other EU Young people the urge of getting a car license by the age of 18 would be decreased”.

Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, concluded: “We need to invest heavily in modern mass transportation systems and think outside the box. Through such an approach, the amount of cars on our streets would be reduced and this would reflect in better physical health, due less air pollution and less mental stress as a result of the heavy traffic jams and the gridlocks increasing on our roads”.
