Mr Speaker visits the Headquarters of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean
The Hon. Dr Louis Galea, Speaker of the House of Representatives, paid a visit to the Headquarters of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean at Palazzo Spinola, St Julians. Dr Galea, who was accompanied by Mr Joe Mangion, Diplomatic Officer, was received by Dr Sergio Piazzi, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, set up in Nafplion, Greece, in February 2005, was established on the initiative of Maltese Parliamentary delegations participating within the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The Parliamentary Assembly provides the Mediterranean with a unique parliamentary forum of its own and brings together, on an equal footing, the national parliaments on the Mediterranean littoral.
Dr Piazzi thanked Dr Galea for his visit and expressed his appreciation for the support and assistance that the Office of the Speaker and the Maltese Government extended towards the setting up of the Secretariat. He briefed Dr Galea on past and future activities of the Parliamentary Assembly and the way the facilities at Palazzo Spinola are being utilised in these activities.
Dr Galea assured Dr Piazzi that his Office will continue to offer its support and assistance to the Secretariat. He underlined the need that the Secretariat and the Assembly fulfil their mission thus contributing towards the security, stability and prosperity of the Mediterranean.
