Malta’s Ambassador to Hungary presents his credentials

In a ceremony held at Sandor Palace in Budapest on 28th April 2008, Mr. Christopher Grima presented his credentials as Malta’s Ambassador to Hungary to the President of the Republic of Hungary, His Excellency Mr. Laszlo Solyom.

During a meeting after the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Grima conveyed the warmth of the Government and people of Malta to the Government and people of Hungary. The President of Hungary and Ambassador Grima acknowledged the strong relations between the two countries on a bilateral basis and recalled the successful State Visit to Malta of the Hungarian President in 2007.

The President of Hungary and the Ambassador both recognized the potential for increased cooperation between the two countries in trade and investment, tourism and culture and also briefly discussed issues of mutual interest such as climate change. Ambassador Grima highlighted the particular role played by Malta in Mediterranean affairs and its understanding of its Mediterranean neighbourhood which was also acknowledged by the Hungarian President. Ambassador Grima also underscored the challenges faced by Malta from illegal migration and its efforts to address this issue.

After the meeting with the President of Hungary, Ambassador Grima was escorted to Heroes’ Square where he laid a wreath at the Monument of Hungarian Heroes. Ambassador Grima is currently also serving as Malta’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Austria and is Permanent Representative of Malta to the OSCE and to the International Organisations based in Vienna.
