UK BAND THE VIOLETS IN MALTA THIS SUNDAY

 

Alternative Malta Promotions are back with a live band for the first time this year. AMP will this weekend be hosting London outfit THE VIOLETS. The gig is being held this Sunday 30 March at Poxx Bar in Paceville.

The Violets are a four-piece female-fronted London band. Emerging some 3 years ago from a scene which spawned such bands as Bloc Party and The Rakes, they have built a reputation for an overwhelmingly energetic live show spearheaded by the imposing presence of blonde frontwoman Alexis Mary.

Musically and visually, The Violets are heavily influenced by 80s bands such as Siouxsie and The Banshees. They have been described as “Nina Hagen fronting a punkier Sonic Youth” and “powerpop Siouxsie”. The music also draws disparate influences such as Neue Deutsche Welle, David Lynch and French Coldwave.

Their debut album “Lost Pages” was released last October. With airplay on Radio One, MTV2 and 6Music, they have become a staple on the indie dancefloors all over Europe.

AM Promotions have for the past 2 years been bringing over to our shores both leading and emerging artists from the alternative and indie world. Past events include: John et Jehn, This et Al, Sidecar Kisses, Willard Grant Conspiracy, The Burning Leaves, Pete Molinari, as well as the Xmas parties at NAAFI and Easter parties at Squero.

The supporting band on Sunday is Malta’s very own The Areola Treat. Fronted by the talented Lisa Micallef Grimaud, the band has just finished recording their debut EP as well as releasing debut single “Sibbi Dibbi”. Only on the scene for the past year and a half, The Areola Treat have already matured into one of Malta’s most exciting live acts.

DJs Zickler and Bob will be spinning the best indie tunes before and after the gig.

The night is sponsored by Cisk Export, Brand Malta and Radio 101.
Tickets at 8 euro are available from D’Amato (Valletta) and Buon Caffe’ (Paceville) or else direct from the organizers. Tickets at the
door are subject to availability and cost 10 euro.
