Malta needs a third party in parliament

The Spokespersons of the European Green Party today expressed the hope that the EGP���⒠�¸s member party in Malta, Alternattiva Demokratika, will win their first parliamentary seat in Malta���⒠�¹s election on Saturday 8th March.

EGP Co-Spokesperson Philippe Lamberts said: ���⒠�¼I would like to wish Alternattiva Demokratika every success in the election on Saturday. I went to Malta two weeks ago to support Alternattiva and was extremely impressed by the strong campaign that party chairman Harry Vassallo and his team are waging. It is not easy for Alternattiva Demokratika to get their message across to the voters because of the enormous imbalance in the amount of media coverage given to the two main parties and the smaller parties, including AD. However, we know that many Maltese are tired of the two party system which does not serve the people well and we are confident that this desire for change will translate into an electoral breakthrough for AD.���⒠�½

EGP Co-Spokesperson Ulrike Lunacek said : ���⒠�¼ Alternattiva Demokratika is the only party courageous enough to face a number of important issues which the two big parties, Labour and the Nationalists, are afraid to deal with because they are scared of losing electoral support . These issues include rent law, divorce, public transport and the need for tighter implementation of planning regulations in Malta. Malta would benefit greatly from the presence of AD in parliament as this would do a great deal to reenergise Maltese politics and transform the country���⒠�¹s political culture, which is extremely partisan and too often characterised by clientelism and fear. Alternattiva Demokratika is the only party that can deliver positive change to the people of Malta and we urge Maltese voters to vote for them on March 8th in order to usher in a new era in Maltese politics.���⒠�½
