Pier Ferdinando Casini, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, will address the opening session of the Parliamentary Assembly which will hold its meetings in Malta from the 22nd  to 24th  November 2007.  The Parliamentary Assembly brings together the national parliaments on the Mediterranean littoral.

The opening session of the Assembly will also be addressed by the Hon. Anton Tabone, Speaker of the House of Representatives and by H.E. Abdelwahed Radi, President of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly.

During the inaugural session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean held in Amman last year, Malta was chosen as the seat of the Headquarters of the Assembly. The Government of Malta offered Spinola Palace to serve as the Headquarters of the Assembly.

The opening session of the Assembly will be followed by the signing of the Headquarters Agreement by the Hon. Dr. Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, on behalf of the Government of Malta and H.E. Mr Abdelwahed Radi, President of the Bureau of the Assembly, on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.  The Agreement defines the juridical status of the Assembly Headquarters in Malta.

H.E. Dr Edward Fenech Adami, President of Malta, will officially inaugurate Spinola Palace as the Headquarters of the Parliamentary Assembly and will unveil a commemorative plaque for the occasion.
