Legendary New York skateboard store Supreme is to release a series of limited edition skateboard decks designed by renowned artist Richard Prince. As a continuation of previous collaborations with high profile artists such as Jeff Koons, Larry Clark, Dan Colen, and Terry Richardson, the project forms part of a larger intention to expose artists to the skate world and vice versa. Prince himself most famously began producing collages from advertising material in the late 70s and early 80s. The artist has gone on to explore themes of appropriation through painting, photography, and found objects. Indeed, his image, Untitled [Cowboy], a re-photograph constructed from cigarette advertisements, was the first ‘photograph’ to raise more than $1 million at auction when it was sold at Christie’s in New York in 2005.
