PR 02/10/2007 AD condemns gun attack on Foresta 2000 ranger

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party harshly condemns the attack on Mr Ray Vella, a ranger at the Foresta 2000 site in Mellieha .

This gun-attack shows the danger faced by anyone who is out in the countryside when confronted by people carrying firearms. Alternattiva Demokratika calls on authorities to strictly monitor people who have permits to carry firearms and to immediately withdraw such licenses from people who dare threaten other people who try to enjoy the countryside or are doing sterling work in conservation.

This incident together with the constant harassment of citizens who are out in the countryside during the hunting season must stop immediately. Alternattiva Demokratika reiterates its support and solidarity with people and organisations who dedicate time and resources to the conservation of our natural heritage.

Alternattiva Demokratika calls for the police to take this case very seriously. We cannot remain in a situation where parts of the countryside are out of bounds because of armed bullies.
