Dear All,

Phos is proud to announce that World Press Photo exhibition is now officially a part of this year’s edition of Notte Bianca. On October 6, the event will open to general public from 18:00 onwards and it will be the final chance to see it before the exhibition’s departure to Spain. World Press Photo exhibition is the result of a worldwide annual contest on press photography and is brought to Valletta with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Strickland Foundation and TNT local branch in Malta, C&C Express. The admittance is free. St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity that host the exhibition is open every day of the week from 10.00- 21.00.

Beside World Press Photo exhibition, at the end of October a debate will be organized at the University of Malta on ethics in the media. Among the participants are Jerry Lampen,
a Dutch professional press photographer and jury member of the World Press Photo contest and Professor Father Chircop from the University of Malta. We would like to invite everyone to take part in the survey that has been attached to this message.

Dear Sir/Madam

With World Press Photo exhibition opened, Phos plans to hold an academic debate at the University of Malta. It will be dedicated to photojournalism and ethics in the media. We would like to invite you to take this small survey and to hear your opinion on the following issues. We appreciate even the shortest replies, as they are going to form the basis for the upcoming discussion, in which the general public will hopefully take part.

1. Do you believe that photographic record of wars, conflicts, and the suffering can contribute in the solving of such problems in any way?

2. Is it morally justified for the photographer to merely observe and take pictures in situations where human lives are endangered?

3. Do you find the images exhibited at World Press Photo disturbing or too graphic to be easily accessible by the general public?

4. Is the media abusing of its position of following world events, using the images and stories for the sole purpose of making a profit?

Please leave this document at the reception at St. James or send to the following address: lil_lilac_tree [Email address: lil_lilac_tree #AT# yhoo.com - replace #AT# with @ ] . Thank you kindly for taking this survey.
