STATEMENT BY THE DIRECTORATE GENERAL (SOCIAL SECURITY) ON SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT PAYMENTS

Reference to a press release issued by the Hon. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca regarding the payment of certain social benefits, the Directorate General (Social Security) wishes to clarify the following.

The Directorate reiterates its position on the matter of the payment of children’s allowances, as expressed in previous press statements, that is, that all the claims submitted correctly in time and with all the relevant information enabling the Department to assess entitlement to the benefit, have been issued in time without any delay. So much so that even in cases where benefit applications were submitted late after the closing date of 30^th April 2007, for the first time these were issued with the first payment for the benefit year which started on the July 7 2007.
