Bicantar is introducing one of the best Chilean wines to Malta. Casa Lapostolle. It is a small and relatively new, exclusively quality-oriented winery that has made considerable inroads over the past years.

Since 1994, it has gained significant market share in world markets. While Chilean wineries are well known for huge, well-established enterprises with a huge production, Casa Lapostolle owned by the Marnier Lapostolle family of Grand Marnier fame and managed by Alexandra Marnier-Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet, focuses on quality which fits perfectly into Bicanter’s philosophy of introducing high quality wines to Malta.

The Marnier Lapostolle family also own the Chateau de Sancerre in the Loire Valley, where they have a long history of viticulture. Casa Lapostolle was originally a joint French and Chilean operation.

However, it is now totally French owned. It all started with the Clos Apalta vineyard in Colchagua, which is the name of their most premium wine. This was a vineyard populated with many old wines.

The grapes are of superb quality, coming from vineyards in high altitude and with restricted yields. From the small beginning, Casa Lapostolle expanded, and now there are vineyards covering 300 hectares with the grapes grown being Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonney, Sauvignon Blanc, Carmenere and Syrah.

Casa Lapostolle became famous for its impeccably made Sauvignon Blanc. Ever since, the winery has improved quality and expanded its offering to red, while also introducing many more white wines.

The Marnier family is well known for its uncomprising approach to quality, and in their Chilean endeavour, the objective remains to use French expertise and Chilean terroir.

The winery employs the consulting services of Michel Rolland, the world famous Bordeaux winemaker and Jacques Begarie as chief viticulturist and winemaker, also a very famous name in Bordeaux.

The two have worked together in the past and together they created ‘Essence’. This close work together reunited them again in Chile in 2004 with Casa Lapostolle. Today, Casa Lapostolle is distributed in over 30 countries and Bicanter Distributors is proud to bring these world-class wines to the Maltese Islands to be enjoyed by all.
