Because the elite riders should be riding the elite machines. 2-strokes are pure race engines – simple yet very sophisticated. Plus, it further separates MotoGP(500) hardware from WSB. MotoGP engines are pure race engines. If it’s just an arbitrary displacement rule, downsize the current MotoGP engines to 500cc.

Sure it’ll be marketed as being “MotoGP derived” and it’ll be painted in similar stripes (and have lots of side-by-side photos with MotoGP bikes) but it’ll just be another lowest-common-denominator, tick the boxes in the cheapest way possible, old-hat-in-12-months, two-wheeled Toyota.

Oh, come on, Pablo. Who said anything about fairness? It has widely been reported that the Japanese companies agreed to a horsepower cap at 220 at the start of MotoGP, and that makes a lot of sense. MotoGP changed the rules to “penalize” fives, which was a very predictable thing for them to do.
