>Dear Local Research Conductors,
>
>After some further delays with appointments of Local Research Conductors we
>are finally set to go and the questionnaires have been sent to the printer
>for printing and delivery. The first packages should arrive to you by the
>end of next week, but for most of you the packages should start arriving
>after the 19th of March.
>
>Unfortunately, this of course means that the preliminary dates for
>conducting the research as set in the Task Description are no longer
>feasible. We have been working hard to get as many Local Research
>Conductors
>on board as possible and with a total of 160 conductors appointed we
>finally
>considered ourselves at least close enough to our original target of
>approximately 180-190 conductors and decided that we had to stop the hunt
>for further Local Groups participating in this project.
>
>New dates for conducting the research will be 19th of March to 16th of
>April.
>
>This will give you a time span of four weeks in which you can conduct the
>research. You are free to choose any time within this period for conducting
>the research for your University and Local Group, but we would of course
>appreciate not to get all reports on the very last days. Please get back to
>us as soon as possible if you will have problems with these new dates, but
>we are confident that they at least should offer some improved
>possibilities
>for our German, Austrian and Swiss Local Research Conductors given the
>tri-semester holiday taking place during most of March. Since all samples
>have now been finally set we are relying on the data from your Local Group
>and your University so we really need you to communicate to us if you are
>having difficulties so we can work out an individual solution.
>
>During this week you will receive two e-mails from us. One will have
>general
>instructions on the actual conducting of the market research (what to think
>about, how to present the project to law students, how to compile the
>questionnaires etc.). The second will be individualised containing specific
>instructions on the samples (amounts of questionnaires) we need from your
>University and Local Group. As soon as you have received the questionnaires
>and read these two e-mails, you are free to start with the research at any
>time. Please contact us if you have not received both of these e-mails by
>the beginning of next week.
>
>I can inform you all that we have already received the Windows Vistas and
>they are waiting here to be delivered to you. Everything is also set with
>the online legal English courses and textbooks. All you need to receive
>your
>copy of Vista and to be eligible for the lottery of the online courses and
>textbooks is to submit your compiled questionnaires on time according to
>the
>instructions and dates given.
>
>Please contact us as soon as possible if you have any questions at this
>stage or if you need to inform us about some special circumstances
>concerning your University and Local Group given the new dates set.
>
>Once more we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your assistance on
>this huge Network project. You are all links in a very long chain now, and
>we are relying on YOU to pull this through!

International Market Research – Task Description for Local Research Conductors

Introduction

ELSA International is during spring 2007 conducting two large scale international market researches. One takes focus on European law students in general and the second takes focus on ELSA members in our Network. These market researches are being conducted in close co-operation with Ipsos, one of the leading global market research companies (many thanks once more to ELSA Poland for their assistance with these contacts).

The purpose of the market research is to get a better picture of who our members are and why the joined ELSA, how law students and our members perceive us as an association, what needs and demands law students and members have from law students’ associations in general and from ELSA more specifically and finally what law students think about certain issues related to legal professions and education (information that is highly valuable to the many partners of ELSA in terms of mainly law firms and Universities).

What we are looking for now are local research conductors that can assist us to carry out the research in their respective Local Groups and at their respective Universities. The task will mainly consist of finding law students and members to fill in the questionnaires that we will distribute, compile the received questionnaires into an Excel-sheet template that we supply and then send that compiled information to ELSA International.

What we are asking for here would require approximately up to one day of work from the local research conductors, and given the hectic schedules of law students’ today we know that it might be asking a lot. We have therefore organised it so that each local research conductor as reward for their work will get one copy of the brand new Microsoft Windows Vista!

Below you will find a task description with details on who we are looking for, what we expect and what benefits and rewards will be given for the work performed. In the end you will find a short form that we wish to received filled in from each local research conductor to ensure the correct contact information and delivery address for the research.

Who we are looking for:

We are basically looking for a person that fulfils the following requirements. To us it doesn’t make any difference if that person happens to be on the National Board, Local Board or simply is a very active member on local level.

Requirements:

  • Reliable with good communication skills (especially answering e-mails on time);

  • Good knowledge of the ELSA Local Group and the local University/Universities that he or she will be responsible for;

  • Motivated and interested in the outcome of the market research;

  • Basic Microsoft Office Excel-skills;

  • Decent English skills (must be able to understand instructions for the research in English and communicate with ELSA International);

  • Willing to dedicate at least one day’s work to the market research;

  • Not planning any longer travels or having any major time consuming exams in the period of 19th of February to the 19th of March 2007.

What we expect you to do:

As our local research conductor, you will be responsible for conducting the research in your Local Group and at your University. This means that you will have to find both law students and ELSA members to fill out the questionnaires that we will send to you. After getting your specific quota of questionnaires (exact details on this will be given at a later stage), you will have to compile the gathered information into a supplied Excel-sheet and then send it to ELSA International. More precisely, what we expect from you is:

  • To send us your confirmation and contact details;

  • To receive the package sent by us;

  • To find law students at your faculty to fill in the general law students’ questionnaires (in average around 50 questionnaires per local research conductor);

  • To find ELSA members in your Local Group to fill in the members’ questionnaires (around 10% of your total Local Group membership – which means approximately around 5-20 questionnaires in average);

  • To compile the answers from the questionnaires into easily filled in Excel-sheets provided by us;

  • To send the compiled Excel-sheets within the given time frame (you will have approximately two weeks to complete the research).

What you will get out of it:

  • You will get your own copy of the brand new Microsoft Windows Vista (courtesy of our Corporate Partner Microsoft) delivered to you upon sending the compiled Excel-sheets to us in time (value approximately 100-200 Euro);

  • You will contribute to the development of ELSA as an association and do the Network an invaluable favour;

  • You will gain valuable information about your Local Group and the students at your University;

  • You will gain information about both members and law students in your country, highly valuable both for the development of ELSA in a national perspective and for partners and sponsors of your National or Local Group.

If you feel that you fit in to the description above, please fill out the short form below with the information that we require from you in order send the questionnaires and ensure a good communication and execution of this market research project.

The filled out form should be handed to your National Board representatives no later than the 12th of February 2007 or sent directly to //marketresearch [Email address: //marketresearch #AT# elsa.org/ - replace #AT# with @ ].

Kind regards,

The International Board 2006/2007
