What can family members do to help?

Couples struggling with childlessness need support from family members and friends. These must, however, be aware that there is a fine line between being helpful and being intrusive.

Here are some tips:

• Show understanding and acceptance. An infertile couple might need to come to terms with a pregnancy, or birth in the family. They must not be rushed into accepting the new arrival.

• Listen without giving advice, be be sympathetic as silence could be interpreted as lack of interest.
