Industry structure and competitive behaviour

Although the five competitive forces are at work in any industry, the balance of power between the different competitors in an industry can vary.

- An industry might be populated by a number of small scale competitors.

- An industry might be dominated by a small number of large competitors.

- There may be a combination: few leading companies may dominate the market, but smaller ones might exist as well.
