Taste The World Festival 2006
Koperattiva Kummerc Gust (KKG), the only fair trade cooperative in Malta, is organising the TASTE THE WORLD Festival 2006 on Saturday, 9th December from 10am to 10pm at St. James Cavalier, Valletta. This event will focus on the unfair practices that exist in the textile industry, including a seminar with the participation of a foreign speaker, Nina Zita who will be sharing her experiences about the garment workers’ situation in Cambodia . A number of stalls will be open during the whole day selling a great variety of products from different continents and providing information on the event’s subject. This can be a very exciting start to you Christmas shopping!
Cotton issues will be discussed during a seminar between 10am and 1pm. These will include the un-sustainability of the cotton production with regards to the environment, the underpaid workers from developing countries and the spraying of pesticides from the air causing breathing problems amongst the locals. The sloganCotton: Caught in a dirty industry” highlights the seriousness of the festival’s topic.
The seminar is funded by the Playing Fair Alternative project and also supported by Malta Forum fl-Ewropa and Global Action Schools.
The festival will give the interested public the opportunity to savour what foreign cultures have to offer and, at the same time, make them aware of global issues that are affecting the whole human race.
The whole day’s activities will close with an enjoyable concert at 8.00pm featuring Simon Vella (violin), Walid (oud) and African music and dance.
The entrance is free of charge!
