Sevenstar ais class B transceiver
By law all ships of 300 tonnes or more must carry AIS, the automatic identification system which uses VHF and GPS to exchange identification, position, course, speed and other ship’s data with nearby vessels and VTS stations.
Last year, class B AIS receivers appeared on the market for leisure craft, but buyers hung back waiting for the transceiver to make a debut. After all, most of us have no problem seeing a 300-tonne ship coming our way – what we want is for them to see us!
